Bhaṭṭanāyaka’s contribution to Sanskrit literature lies primarily in his authorship of Hṛdayadarpaṇa, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest works of Indian poetry. The poem is a masterpiece of Sanskrit literature, renowned for its exquisite language, rich imagery, and evocative expressions of love and desire.
Bhaṭṭanāyaka’s use of various poetic devices such as similes, metaphors, alliterations, and personifications are remarkable, making Hṛdayadarpaṇa a shining example of the alaṅkāra or ornamental style of Sanskrit poetry.
In addition to Hṛdayadarpaṇa, Bhaṭṭanāyaka is also believed to have written several other works on poetry and literary theory, although these have not survived to the present day. His influence on later Sanskrit poets and writers is evident in their emulation of his style and themes, and in their use of his work as a model for their own creative endeavors.
